Don't take your Bedford down Porlock Hill unless you like engine braking. There is a long way round for lorries or a much better (and more scenic) straight road across the middle of Exmoor ---------------------- | Mon 14 Feb 2011 @ 20:21 |

Ed-Don wrote: Don't take your Bedford down Porlock Hill Wimp! My CF went up and down quite a few times. The road between Lynton and Lynmouth is just as bad in places. The mountain road to Applecross is another fun(!) road. ---------------------- | Mon 14 Feb 2011 @ 20:35 |

Hardknott Pass on the Eskdale side is an interesting way to test a Vauxhall gearbox - to destruction of the mainshaft/input shaft roller bearings in my first CF & that was going downhill. ---------------------- | Mon 14 Feb 2011 @ 20:52 |

There's 2 toll roads that avoid the A39 at Porlock. One of them is out the back of Porlock Weir (the Worthy Toll Road) It involves a rather narrow arch and it's here you chuck 30p or something in an honesty box! My Ambulance did fit through it, believe it or not! http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=&q=Porlock+Hill.&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Porlock+Hill,+Minehead,+United+Kingdom&gl=uk&ll=51.221407,-3.636389&spn=0.003669,0.011362&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.221426,-3.636193&panoid=AeYLSYlDizFROrNyTPhtiQ&cbp=12,282.52,,0,-1.95 ---------------------- | Thu 14 Apr 2011 @ 17:33 |
