frontera td help

After many hours of trying to get the 2.3 diesel to go have given up the engine to tired so it has been retired.

I have managed to get hold of a good frontera td engine complete as I couldn't find a good original.

Questions
1. If I just drop the turbo off and change the manifolds will it go straight in?
2. to keep the turbo what needs changing?

I have noticed the fly wheel is different and changed this.
Any help much appreciated
Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm not so clued up on the Frontera engine, but a number of people on this site have fitted them. Here in France a lot of us use Opel Rekord engines, which are readily availible and only need the cam cover and the sump changing to fit perfectly. The other advantage is that the power availible is slightly better than the Bedford version of the Opel diesel! (like 91 bhp instead of 71bhp)

Depending on which frontera engine you have ,

If its the 2.3TD then yes change the manifolds will mean it will fit straight in.
The down side is loss of power though due to lower compression engine.

If there is space you could leave the turbo manifolds on and modify the exhaust to fit.

flywheel will have to be changed along with the clutch.

Whats wrong with your engine not firing up.
Have you checked that the fuel has been bled and that the glow-plugs are working???

If timing is correct then using something like ether in the inlet manifold after you disconnect the glow-plugs should get it started

Note to all who may try this - make sure you do disconnect the glow plugs, dimethyl ether autoignites at 170 degrees C.
I used to have fun with this stuff in the laboratory, but managed to never set myself on fire!

frontera cf 2

I have Just tried the engine and it looks like the sump will have to be changed also will need to modify the bulkhead to make room for the injection pump and thats without the turbo.
Will it run ok with the modern injection system without the turbo?:?

There should be no need to modify the bulkhead so that the injection pump fit's

Hope your not trying to fit the izzuzu enging in there as you will need loads of mods.

Using the old engine mounts should let you install the engine with little modification.

Yes you will need to swap the sump over and you mite have to make new holes for oil return pipes though.

@ Madrat, the engine mounts on the front axle are different between petrol and diesel on the earlier cf's with the slant 4 petrol engine fitted. you have to either modified the engine mounts or replace the front axle for a diesel one.
