1973 Bedford Truck

My friend has a 1973 bedford truck 466 D (I know nothing of these things). He has some kind of problem w/ the air brakes I believe, but anyway, his mechanic also knows nothing & said he had to get a manual. They located one in England & want him to pay ~$300. This seems ridiculous to me. Is there anyone that knows a cheaper source please?

the only thing i can suggest is find an ex army mechanic. they will be used to them and will probably sort it cheaper than that.
