Starter problems.

Hi to all,

After heavy rain last night the old Bedford electric's were a bit spit and fart as I drove out of town, missed a traffic light at green and had to stop, and so did the engine and refused to start, always at traffic lights sods law eh!
Managed to coast into the side only to find that the starter had stopped answering to the key ( lovely), so I thought starting handle and WD forty give the cap and leads a spray and wait a while, mean time try out my RAC recovery and that took 15 minutes to answer all their questions, be with you in about an hour and a half,(WOW).
Still on starter working so time to try the starting handle and after a few turns it started and I managed to drive home and cancel the RAC, so removed starter and tested on the bench working perfectly, check ign. switch all ok, so it most be wiring and that is a job for another day.

Starter repaired.

Hi to all,

With the starter repair and refitted engine started and ran for fifteen minutes and then went into rough running and miss-fire, when driven no power and back-fire, having already fitted new points and condenser, spark plugs and coil I decided to take out the distributor to find a piece of the drive slot had broken off so the distributor spindle could skip around causing it to fire on the wrong cylinder, never seen this before but the engine has done well over a hundred thousand miles in its forty years on the road.
