Winter covers

So I've looked into a few threads on this subject and came up with well not a lot so I'm gonna ask you lot... Is it a good idea to cover your camper in winter or does that cause moisture to be trapped hence causing rust ( it is a breathable cover) I also have had one made just for the cab... Same material btw.

I think this is a very important question for all campervan owners... imo

I bought one when I first got my van but decided to put the van in a barn for the first winter so have yet to use it. I must admit though that I would be interested in the answer as much as you.

I've got a large caravan cover over mine now. It can't be any more damp, even if it does keep some moisture in, than sitting in the rain and cold for 5 months. Ideally it wants to be parked in a large barn, but that's storage cost

so looks like we're all going to Mike's place ..
one thing I will say frank is I noticed that the cover DID rub the back of the roof a bit but as I intend to paint the whole roof next year I'm not to worried but thought I'd let you know OK old son

Hi guys

A fix for the chafe problem would be to drape some old (but clean - no grit) carpet over the high spots. I have an old sailing boat and cover her in a cotton canvas tarp that has now been used for 25 years. Careful padding of the sharp edges and sticky out bits and making sure the cover is kept as tight as possible and it will be fine.

Used a cover made by Kampa for years on motor and caraVans with great success.Triple layers allow the van to breathe. Noticed on entering on a cold winters day, for some internal maintenence, how warm the inside was.Sob the work---had a kip!! Seriously good, but use all the supplied tie-downs if you get a windy season.

Hi Guy

I am sure it would if you used a woolen carpet for instance but a synthetic one shouldn't as far as I know. The idea is not to cover the van in a carpet , only the hard edges really. The cover SHOULD keep the water out anyway :)

I've got the same Kampa cover, it's good quality and I've noticed how warm it is inside the van too :-)
