Ready for the off.

Hi to all,

So the old Bedford is ready for the off around the 4th of November I am thinking for a few days over to the north and west to meet up with one or two folks that I know in that area, it seems my son and his young lady want to follow me with their newly acquired caravan, should be interesting!

Weather.

Hi Mike,

If you waited on the weather in Scotland you would never go anywhere but as long as the campervan keeps going and the heaters work and we are not too far from a pub I will be just fine.

Got booked in .

Hi to all,

Searching for campsites that are open all year around and not finding one that was too far away has been a job in its self, but one site over in Lochgilphead on the west coast has accepted my booking.
They normally close down at the end of October but because they have some folks who stay on site all the year around and I have used this site on a number of west coast visits they have said yes come on over.
So it is booked for a three day stop-over from the tenth of November, quite mild over that side of the country so it should make for a nice change of scene.

If it's the one I think it is then it's a nice site. It's got some nice hard standings and only a short walk into town. The drive along the Crinian (??) Canal is nice too. Well, don't drive along the actual canal but use the road nearby

Hi Colin,

Yes that is the one I have used it quite a few times so they know me by now, should make a nice short break and gives my son and his young lady a chance to try out their new caravan, (needless to say I will take the Bedford).

Change of plan.

Hi to all,

The change of plan being that my son and his partner have pulled out of going on the trip so it looks like I will be a lone-ranger, heading off into the sunset in the west.

Returned from my short break.

Hi to all,

I have returned from my two day visit to Lochgilphead and the west coast and all went quite well apart from not driving fast enough for the A85 and A83 road traffic who all seem to have a suicide packed with the devil himself.
One or two small things I will need to have a look at but all round quite pleased with the Bedford, I will have to water proof the overdrive solenoid which when wet was slow to engage and the gear-change got a bit tight to select, so a job for tomorrow!

Return from journey checks.

Hi to all,

Having checked fuel levels mileage and oil and water levels I have topped up one pint of coolant and half a pint of engine oil having covered 250 miles, so for an old engine with over a hundred thousand miles under its belt I am quite pleased.
But on the down side the old crank-shaft is showing signs of ware from cold start, on the road certainly no lack of power at the top end and on the suitable parts of the road (of which there were few) the overdrive worked well.
The miles per gallon has worked out at twenty to the gallon, but if there had more suitable roads for the overdrive to have been used over long periods time such as on motorway I think I would have seen a figure closer to twenty-five miles per gallon.
I might have to look at doing a bit of bottom end crank-shaft and shells work in the not too distant future!
