Anyone selling a generator?????

It's time for me to have a bit of a rant!

Many years ago when power stations were state owned there was an estimated surplus supply of electrical generation of approx 25%. With the continued closing of coal power stations NationalGrid now estimate that this winter the available surplus will be around 1.2% and by next winter will be in the minus's. Should we have a really hard winter and one or two power stations have breakdowns then it will result in blackouts. Not enough electricity to go around. With companies cutting back the maintenance of their power stations so that they can pay their shareholders there's a lot of power generation that could drop out. Wind is a waste of time - it's unreliable. Either not enough wind or too much. You take a really frosty day. Usually they are really calm days. Plus think of the size of wind farms. Let's take Gwynt-Y-Mor off the north Wales coast. It's a 576MW site and takes up 31 square miles. A typical gas powered station such as Staythorpe produces 1,735MW and you can walk all the way around it in about 20 minutes. Image how much space wind would take up just to replace that one power station! As for solar - it's great at night and on rainy days! Renewable energy isn't the way forward. What we need is to build more nuclear plants. I know that Hinckley 'C' is to be built but there's at least a 10 year gap before it'll come on line. Basicaly this county is screwed

BTW, if anyone wants to see what's happening in the world of power generating you can see in real time HERE

Okay, rant over. I'm going to go and hide now

Seen this coming.

Hi Colin,

I bought a generator about three years ago thinking of buying a second one after reading your post.
