Overdrive gearbox.

Hi to all,

Having been given an overdrive gearbox this summer the plan is to have it all checked out and any worn or damaged parts replaced ready to fit to the Bedford during the off road months of the winter.
The gear-change turret and cross shaft have already been changed to allow an anti-rattle kit to be fitted, with access for a reveres light switch to be fitted.
And the bottom cover plate his been replaced for one with a drain plug, allowing the gear oil to be changed, I think a must on these very hard working old commercial gearboxes.

Overdrive.

Hi guypjfreak,

This gearbox has came with a gearstick mounted switch and a shortened prop-shaft from tail-shaft to centre bearing, I have striped and replaced any worn bits in the box and fitted a different base cover with a drain plug in it.
Checked out the over-drive unit and all seems to be working as it should, I changed the gearshift cross-shaft in the box and fitted a different gearstick turret so that my anti-rattle rubber and spring clip can be set up can be fitted.

Hi guypjfreak,

The thing being it just makes sense to check over and where possible make repairs or adjustments rather than just chucking into the motor and hoping for the best.

Overdrive.

Hi guypjfreak,

Overdrive should only be used in third and fourth gear and never in reverse.
