Help to find manufacturing date? Hello there I have a Bedford CF. It was registered 24/02/1975 which if I can prove was manufactured before 01/01/75 it will now be tax exempt. But can't seem to find a site that can take 13 digit VIN No? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.. ---------------------- | Tue 02 Jun 2015 @ 19:18 |

Sorry, you are right. The VIN just gives the year, in your case 'EY' was 1975 but I've got no way of finding when each chassis number was built. ---------------------- | Wed 03 Jun 2015 @ 18:09 |

Hello, We contacted Andrew Boddy at Vauxhall Heritage (details bottom right of page): http://media.gm.com/media/gb/en/vauxhall/heritage.html He was very lovely and kind enough to find out when and where Bertie our CF was manufactured - which was actually a year earlier meaning (fingers crossed) he is tax exempt this year! Hope this helps! Lisa | Mon 22 Jun 2015 @ 18:06 |

I contacted Vauxhall, and even though my vin plate implies a 1974 vehicle, and the V5 shows reg on 4th Jan 74, Vauxhall heritage guy confirmed it was built in September 73, s I could have avoided a whole year's tax if I'd have known this last year. By the way, in case it's not mentioned anywhere, to change the tax class of your van, take your v5 to the post office and show them that it was over 40 years old on 1st Jan that year, they will give you free tax there and then and send off the V5 to have it officially altered. Did mine a few weeks ago and have the new V5 back no problem. ---------------------- | Tue 11 Aug 2015 @ 14:13 |

Same here regarding the dating - however we had to send it to the Dvla with a cover letter and they sent it all back after 4 weeks without changing the date on the V5 and no reason or acknowledgment why! Our post office wasn't very helpful either - they said they couldn't change it there. I'm not sure what we do now.. ****update! We received a refund in the post this week and have called the DVLA who confirmed the change of date (it's just not listed on the V5) which now classifies the vehicle as historic! | Wed 12 Aug 2015 @ 14:20 |

I'd advise going back to a post office where they know the process. My postie had to do a load of stuff on the computer and it came up recognising the van was over 40, so allowed her to issue free tax there and then. If your postie doesn't do that, they are doing it wrong so the DVLA will reject it. What does your reg doc say as 1st reg date? ---------------------- | Thu 20 Aug 2015 @ 06:57 |
