Gearbox replacement parts/whole boxes Synchros have gone on my van for 2nd gear after being pretty bad for years. 3rd not much better... Anyone got spare parts to recon a vauxhall 4 speed box, or a whole spare box in reasonable condition? Adrian charges 280 for a complete re-build which having spoken to my local gearbox re-build company sounds a pretty good price (they said they wouldn't get close to that price even if they could get the parts).Cheers, Dave |

Gearbox. Hi XSFrank,If you cannot get a gearbox locally I do have two or three sitting here ready to go, but I would need to know if your four speed box was a high or low geared one and for that I would need a picture of the input shaft. Doug. ---------------------- |

all the way through getting my box out, just the two bolts that the haynes manual says 'use a cranked spanner' to get at. It's 5/8th a/f. Anyone near Northampton got one that I can borrow (or further afield that could post), or know of one available to buy that fits the job? i've tried all my standard spanners and nothing fits. Alternatively, anyone know if the plate covering the opening on the bell housing could be removed allowing access to them through the front of the bell housing with a long socket extension? ---------------------- |

Cranked spanner Hi,What I use is a 5/8 swivel headed socket spanner or a 3/8 drive ratchet with a 5/8 socket. doujoy. ---------------------- |

There's one on greedbay 261820883711 or I've got an open ended 5/8 AF.All you need is an angle grinder & welder!

Hi, What you need to do is press the clutch pedal to the floor and lock it down with a piece of wood wedged against the seat box, this will give you room to get swivel headed spanner or ratchet into the bolts. It is still a tight space but you can work just a click at a time until slack. doujoy. ---------------------- |

Been reading up about overdrive units that would fit the vauxhall 4 speed. As I need a Laycock J type unit, does anyone know if that unit from a triumph box would fit straight on to my box (so just the prop needs modifying)? As a Dolomite owner I am lead to believe the overdrive clutches are different. I was told that the cf uses competition clutches (which are still available). standard ones will slip/wear very quickly when dragging more than double the weight of a Dolly. |

Hi to all, That Dolomite box has a narrower main-shaft than the Bedford CF Vauxhall box, and it is shorter than the one needed for the Bedford. doujoy. ---------------------- |
