Doesn't look like any thing has been cut under my bonnet old son... I'm going to wait for the weather then get her serviced ect.. It's like I've got plenty of plans but not enough money to get it all done but the engine is the first step in getting her 100.100% lol

OK so now I have a webber carb and wow Wot a difference it makes.. Thanks Frank... I have one bit of trouble and that is after a shortish drive she starts missing and playing up now I was reading that someone else had this problem and it was the coil.. I'm still using the same coil.. My question is would changing the carb mean changing the coil..
Thoughts please

Hi

It was me with the troublesome miss fire.

Eventually this turned out to be mostly the result of fitting a new ballast resister coil bought from Ebay that was faulty from new.

In addition to that issue I also had a bad connection to the ballast resister which compounded the problem.

Hope this helps

Mike
PS I have a virtually new coil going spare, bought about a month ago from the Accuspark electronic ignition firm I (now I have fitted the Bosch system from my spare van this coil is surplus)

I know the coil bit lol.. Not sure about ballast bit lol.. So check connections yea.. Coil is same as before with different carb but now is close to engine.. Maybe coil is getting hot would that cause a problem... Every thing else top of the range..

OK so it seems that my van only wants to go for half an hour or so then conks out..she wasn't overheating but after running lovely with no worries she just started popping until she stops..
Now I've had the valves done and a recon webber carb which runs great.. I now have two problems
One the battery light and the dash lights plus horn don't work
Two the one I'm worried about is WHY O WHY is my engine dying on me after only 19 bloody miles.. Please tell me it's easy to sort out..
Cheers for help. G

OK so we've changed the coil and it still doesn't want to drive for more than twenty minutes.... It's so frustrating that when she is driving she's driving lovely.
Gonna change condenser next... I'm lucky to have a friend help but as we're both scratching our heads any more advice would be welcome.
Finding that we're not getting a lot of power through alternator.. All earth's look OK

I had another thought you changed the carb but did you check the jets in the new carb were the correct size? cheers Jim.

Cheers old son.
. Will be trying to answer these questions about carb tomo or Sat ..

On other thought we've just found out that as the battery light is not coming on hence this will not complete the circuit hence as we've just learnt will make the alternator not put out power would THIS be the reason why engine shuts down.

If so then getting to the back of the dash and sorting lights is top priority..

So today we checked all fuses had a few doggy ones so there changed.. We sorted all the bulbs behind the dash.. We checked all the wires underneath.
We tested alternator but that wasn't giving out any power to the batteries but after we had done all the above and checked all earth's tightened all the batteries back up and turned her over....... Voila great stuff we're now getting 13.6 into alternator..
Not out of the woods yet as I can't test properly on a long run till Tuesday but I feel that we did good today. Thanks for advice and will keep you informed..

Thanks to Frank as well for his patience lol

OK so after taking all the old lights and replacing them from behind the dash. Also checked and changed fuses. Checked all the wires ect.
Anyway I now have a battery light that in turn completes the circuit from alternator to battery so giving the engine enough power.. At least that's what I've been lead to believe..
SO today we took her for a run and this time she didn't conk out so that is a plus I think we have solved the problem.. She is running a bit rough tho with some power loss
SO that is the next step sort out the rough running.. Going to take her up the duel carriage way to blow away the cobwebs.
So the story continues lol..

A light bulb.... Madness
