oil pressure and Box change

Hello, I am now the proud owner of an 82 cf250 autosleeper with a 2.3 slant engine and I have a couple of questions. How long is normal before the oil light goes out from a cold start, mine clatters away for at least 10 seconds and then all goes quiet when the light goes out. Seems a bit long to me (85k on original engine).
I have a 4 speed Vauxhall box at the moment. If I fit a 5 speed zf from a 350 is there a standard propshaft I can use or is it cut and shut time.

Regards Andy

Oil pressure

Hi Andy,I have this problem also.I changed the big ends, oil pump and it didn't help.I was advised to change the oil filter to one with a one way valve in it.I did this and found it didn't help on start up after a long period of not being started.I have treated the engine with Slik 50 as this does help while the oil comes up.The oil filter does help when on a trip. You will have to try your own method of start up,to fined what is best for you.I hope this helps.Cheers+Beers,Jim.

lack of oil on start up is more than often down to faulty seals on the oil pump and associated components, the old rubber tends not to like the new style synthetic oil....

as for gearbox if its the same bell housing then your lucky , the front section of the prop will need to be cut and shut though

Thanks for the info .
I shall replace the pump and pick up seals ,fit a filter with a drain back valve and stick in slick50. Im sorning the van at the end of the month so time to find my ramps in the shed. It is a 2.3 bellhousing on the zf box and I have the front section of the zf propshaft so off to see my mate with a lathe when I know how long the front section will need to be once I have fitted the 5 spd box. I will get another front section for a 4 speed though before I cut and shut as I was not able to try the zf box before removing it so I can revert if the 5 speed box is duff.
