alternator light

on my last trip where most of the driving was at night I noticed that the alternator charge light on the dashboard was slightly flickering on. and when using the wipers and main beam were glowing bright red. another problem was when dring on main beam with the spotlights on after about a minute all lights would go off until I cancel main beam and go onto dip then all the lights come back on. any ideas.

Check all ground/earth points ensuring they are clean and free from any corrosion. Check battery terminals to ensure they are clean and secure.

My CF used to do this and it turned out to be corrosion where the passenger seat box meets the floor. the battery earth strap was bolted to the seat base but the corrosion was causing high resistance, as a result the lighs were dim, wipers were slow and the charge light used to flicker.

Alternator warning light

The first thing to check is that the fan belt is not too loose.
