31 year old cf2 clubman conversion innition light on when engine is off and key removed

Hi Sorry my first ever post is a need for help. I have recently purchased a 1985 cf2 clubman camper. it has two batteries main and leisure. when the main battery is connected even with the key in the off position, the ignition light comes on. the engine starts readily when the key is turned and runs normally, however the oil pressure lamp, fuel gauge and temperature gauge do not work, and the alternator charge lamp stays on. has anyone had this happen and if so what caused it. I am wondering if the fault could be the split charge relay but I cant find it
looking back through the paperwork in the van there is a bill for a new battery and 'relay' from 2008

Well,I can categorically state without fear of contradiction that you have a short circuit!

Hi all,
found the problem, Failed diode pack in the alternator. had the alternator repaired and new bearings fitted. Good as new. now just needs a little 'fettling' and hopefully will be to use it. anyone suggest where I can get the soft furnishings including front seats rebuilt/recovered, in hertfordshire area if possible?
