Woolacombe

Have just come back from our first trip in our beddy - mildred. Went from Devizes in wiltshire to Woolacombe. Took 5 hours as we had no prior warning of Porlock hill and she stopped halfway up and refused to go any further up, so had to reverse and try the toll road.:D We stayed at the Walcombe Farm camping site. Cost us £13.00 per night which is for the camper 2 adults and assorted children and a small tent outside, electric and an amazing bathroom block with heated floors and lots of space. Well worth the trip although the M5 back was a much quicker route although we a re much wiser from the experience.

Andrew,
How was the toll road at Porlock? Have considered using it, but am a bit nervous of width, the surface etc - I seem to remember the last time I went up it (not in Campy), it was a hair raising experience, & I'm as bald as a badger!
Our Beddy is a coachbuilt, by the way.

Mornin Barney

The toll road was not too bad. Mildred is a coachbuilt autosleeper and it was not bad at all, a bit hot but the end but nothing too serious. Toll was £4.00 the other place to follow the caravan route is Lynmouth as it too has a 1 in 4 hill. Give the toll a go well worth the drama but would not reccomend doing porlock.

Thanks Chaps,

Lynmouth I know about(!) but we've always approached from the south, via Dulverton.
Colin - good to know that Porlock is achievable, although I tend to work on the basis that if I don't ask Campy to do anything strenuous, she'll last that little bit longer! Bear in mind I haven't masses of experience with the CF, so am tending to be over-cautious!
