Advice desperatley needed with over noisy engine

Hi all.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this. I have recently purchased a 1983 Bedford CF that I am totally in love with. She is in immaculate condition inside and has really low millage of 22600 which I have verified. It has passed every mot with only minor advisories but has been driven only 400 miles in 5 years. The previous owner did not realise about he lead replacement so was driven these miles on regular unleaded. I added the lead replacement when I purchased her and she has done 100 miles since. she starts first time, drives well even up hills (slow though ), does not overheat and will comfortably sit at 55.

So onto my question:

With no obvious faults I am struggling to find out why she is running so noisy. I know these engines are load as it sits so close but this is unbearably loud. It actually sounds like an old diesel tractor. You have to shout to hear the passenger beside you.

Any suggestions and advice on what could be causing it would be greatly appreciated. I am desperate to not have to resort to a garage as I am furiously saving with the hope of taking this van across France and Italy in the summer.

Thanks in advance

Julie

Not sure whether I can give a positive diagnosis but,I can certainly have a listen & give an opinion. At the very least I could record the sound & put it up on here for others to listen to.I'll pm my phone number.

As bluebedouin says, without actually hearing your noise it is difficult for anyone to comment, could be a loud tappet, piston slap, bottom end knock, exhaust blow, the list is endless. An uploaded video with good audio may help but Ideally you need someone to actually witness the concern.

Any joy on the noise yet? I'm happy to help and am also in Northampton (and have access to some quite nice sound absorbing materials....)
