2.5 di transit cf

Ok. I'll write this again seeing it disappeared last night lol
Hello every one.
I have a cf 340 motor home called SID.
Previous owner had trouble with original engine so decided to give it a heart transplant. It now has a 2.5 do transit and box in itit runs very well but has one problem. I know SID isn't the fastest of the bunch I know as I have a standard utopia. But SID IS REALLY SLOW. Thinking the transit power plant and cf diff don't go very well together. I was wondering it a transit diff or axle out of a 190 would be a better option bringing SID back up to a nice criuse speed of 55 60
Any info would be greatly appreciated

all depends on what rear axle that fitted to yours.

Available transit axle ratios for the 2.5di

4.88 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.55 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.90 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.08 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
5.88 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
5.88 rear wheel drive twin rear wheel
4.63 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
3.77 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.27 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
3.77 rear wheel drive twin rear wheel
3.77 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.56 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
5.13 rear wheel drive single rear wheel
4.27 rear wheel drive twin rear wheel
4.63 rear wheel drive twin rear wheel
5.13 rear wheel drive twin rear wheel

Becareful when changing axle ratios because while longer gears will give you a better top speed, you will intern loose out on acceeration and pulling power.

Apparently, there were two types of axle fitted to cf's.

since you have a 340 cf then it will be a twin-wheeled rear axle.

there are up to 6 different ratios on this type of axle and by the look of it you have an extra low ratio 1 fitted.

I do believe that the ambulance has a high ratio axle fitted but it wont be that high..............

you could try retro fitting a twin wheeled transit axle in place of the Beddy 1 but getting hold of a high ratio axle is hard as they are very rare .

down side of this is caring 2 spare wheels though

other option is to see if the set up can be switched to a single wheeled set up.
the 280cf has a good high ratio axle and can carry the extra weight.

if your going down this root then you can also swap the front set up to a 5 stud as well.........

The VIN checked should(!) give you the original ratio fitted to your van. Take a look HERE
