Buying advice please

Hi,
I have been offered a late 70s CF camper, and told the mileage is low.

I'm mechanically literate and able, but would appreciate if anyone has advice on weak spots or failings I should be looking for when I try the vehicle out.

In particular, anything that isn't obvious.

Thanks.

Hi, im a new cf owner and based on the gremlins i have uncovered on mine you need to look for rust or bad repairs mainly. In particular, what was bad on mine was the windscreen surround which looked great from the outside as it had a new seal but upon removing the windscreen to reseal it there was no metal behind it just silicone. Try peeling back the windscreen rubber to have a look especially round the bottom. Also check the front floor as mine was rotten on both front wheel wells caused by the leaky windscreen i think.
Best of luck
Luke

Hi as Luke has said windscreen surround and step / floor area can be a problem , but also bonnet front edge is a real problem can be hard to repair well but fibreglass replacements are expensive. Also the kick panel directly behind front wheel collects water and crud from the road if these are sound fit a good pair of mudflaps to try and stop this happening. Engines are reliable and pretty easy to work on the gm 2.3 diesel is very strong and will go forever especially if you change the oil regularly but don't expect to get anywhere quickly. Last but not least is damp in the camper if you are giving hard earned cash for this check the inside really well especially if like mine it's a coachbuild rear go in all the corners and lockers and check for spongey feeling wood this can be a real problem and can be time consuming to fix. Hope this helps . Cheers john
