Access to main/engine battery - 1986 (C reg) campervan Hi allJust a newbie with a question. I recently bought a C reg camper but, due to the poor weather, haven't been away in it yet. I tried to start it the other day and the battery's dead. The odd thing is the battery seems to be hidden under the left side of the van with no easy way of being able to jumps start the van. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Christine | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 18:17 |

Hi and welcome to the club Do you know what camper it is? If you know the model then maybe one of the members will have the same and be able to point you in the right direction. ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 20:46 |

Thanks for the reply. It's a Bedford CF campervan, C reg (1986). Does that help? ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 21:07 |

Hi Bedford only made the van part of the camper. The camper section was converted by a seperate firm such as Dormobile or Autosleeper. Do you know the make of your conversion. ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 21:12 |

Would it appear on the logbook? Otherwise I'm a bit lost! ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 21:16 |

No, log book would just give the Bedford van details. You could try posting some photos. Hopefully one of the members will be able to help with the info. ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 21:26 |

You could also have a look through the brochures here to see if you can spot yours. ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 23:00 |

I'm pretty sure there should be a removable piece of flooring above it.I haven't got the cradle on mine but I recall seeing someone elses that had. ---------------------- | Sat 02 Feb 2013 @ 23:14 |

get yourself a jump start pack much easier than using leads as you tend to need extra long jump leads or link 2 sets together due to placement of battery ---------------------- | Sun 03 Feb 2013 @ 11:24 |

Thanks for your replies - the following link takes you to a photo of my camper. I have bought a jump-start/power pack kit but, as I can't get to the battery, I haven't been able to use it yet! http://s1282.beta.photobucket.com/user/grandaddarren/media/8EE505DC-C2E1-4DAC-8545-4CDBA1EC4217-9448-00000C8D5F59A507_zps0fa165c5.jpg.html#/user/grandaddarren/media/8EE505DC-C2E1-4DAC-8545-4CDBA1EC4217-9448-00000C8D5F59A507_zps0fa165c5.jpg.html?&_suid=1359916709835027480213446881446 ---------------------- | Sun 03 Feb 2013 @ 18:38 |

Still can't tell the make but it's what's known as a coachbuilt. A front and rear view would be nice. Try opening the side door and see if there's a removeable panel in the floor just inside the doorway. ---------------------- | Sun 03 Feb 2013 @ 19:04 |

Hi Christine, I used to own this van a few years ago. The exact model I never found out after lots of enquiries, the nearest i came was a Pioneer, but the kitchen and toilet/wardrobe were on opposite sides. Regarding the engine battery,it does not have a seperate cover from inside the van and has to be removed from underneath. There was a heavy duty truck battery fitted as a leisure battery under the front of the nearside bed seat, if I remember correctly i ran a heavy duty starter cable connected to the van battery into the leisure batt box so that it could be connected to the leisure battery to jump start the van in an emergency. I have no way of knowing if this is still there. if you PM me your landline number I can call you back as i have free calls. Best of luck and Happy Camping. Regards David.
