Ignition switch

Just had the van MOT'ed - failed on front shocks but I hope the guy who is working on it can get some ordered. After a successful trip to Mablethorpe etc. the van decided to cut out on the gentleman who drove it to the MOT station. last year the ignition switch caught fire (after we had to replace it with a toggle on/off job) and so a push button was fitted instead. I just don't think it likes going to the MOT station ! It's been suggested that it is the actual barrel that is causing the prob (Phil, you kindly soldered it and helped with it before). Is it now time to replace the barrel and if so does anyone know of where I may get one from? How about a universal one? Thank you

Sounds like it's the electrical switch that's causing the problem.

Switch can be replaced on its own if you can find a replacement. There's 2 types though, Lowe & Fletcher & Niemann.

Release the small locking screw & withdraw switch from steering column lock to see what shape the switch body is & also the drive that turns the centre bit of the switch.

If you can't find the right switch then a dash mount type of ignition switch with its own key will do and the steering lock either can be left in place (i.e. 2 keys needed to drive the van) or removed as you wish.
