Barrel change on rear door lock.

This is on a CF1 facelift. Photo's to follow eventually (when the 12mm circlips turn up ) .

You can use the Land Rover barrels the same as the type shown in the 'How to' section by Phil shown here. http://www.bedfordcf.co.uk/mboard/thread.php?id=11848

Process is very similar, however there is a locking pin that needs to be knocked out which holds the barrel in place.
2 x 12mm int circlips are required for packing as the barrel is slightly shorter in the body, but not the length.
For the front doors a 13mm int circlip is used for packing, however 13mm is too large to fit down the handle on the rear one.

That's good news; I thought that LandRover barrels might fit the CF1 rear door handle but I've only got CF2 handles to play with & they've got longer barrels with 2 extra wards.

CF1 is definitely the 5 ward.
I was very pleased, because I took the chance and got a matching set of 4 land rover barrels from ebay for about £12, now all my locks not only have the same key, but they work. and I have 7 spare keys.

My mistake. The circlips are NOT required.

Exploded view of the rear door handle.

What is difficult to see is that there is a locking pin which holds the barrel in. When this is removed the barrel assembly slides out.
The barrel rotation causes a a square shaft (shown above the handle) to move in and out, this is what stops the handle turning. If this shaft is removed take note of the position of the cut-out. It is not necessary to remove this, however I took mine out for cleaning and re-greasing.

We have just purchased a 1974 CF and noticed that there's a problem with the rear door lock; the key turns but doesn't seem to engage the lock at all

Will be taking it apart this weekend (weather permitting), so thanks for posting the exploded view of the rear door handle and info! Together with this and Phil's post/photos we should be able to determine the problem and have a locking door in no time.

P.S. Might be in touch if we encounter any problems
