Gearbox mounting

How tight should the gearbox mounting bolts be (the four that go into the chassis on a 1980 CF1 Vauxhall 4 speed)? Should they be as tight as you can get them and the rubber insulators quite compressed, or a bit slacker ?

thanks

Bolts should be tightened to the point where they bind against the spacer sleeves in the bushes then retained by bending over the lock tabs.

Strip cut from a steel oil can with 2 holes 3/8-inch diameter punched out to match bolt spacing (or slightly wider apart & bend strip to fit) will do for a replacement lock tab.

Over-tightening usually damages the threads in the chassis bracket.
