How to tidy up brake drums

I've got an NOS unused pair of front drums and matched hubs. They have light surface rust on the outside (not a problem) and some on the inside of the drums. What's the best way to remove this and get them ready for fitting? I'm wary of using sandpaper or wire brushes as it'll score the braking surface. Can I dip them in coca-cola to get the first bit off or will that leave a hardened deposit?
What's the best paint for the outer surfaces - there's no way I'm going near hammerite.
Anyone know the part numbers for bearings to fit the hubs? Chassis number starts 97370 611847.

I've always used emery cloth to give the inner surface of drums a quick once over, as long as it is a fine grade and it is a light 'wipe' over there shouldn't be a problem. I tend to used a knotted wire brush on my grinder to dress any outer surfaces such as drums, etc. I then give them a coat of Kurust (doesn't do any harm really) and then you could use a caliper paint of whatever flavour appeals. Job done. Just take your time and use a decent quality brush for a better finish.

Hello Tony,
For removing rust, good old vinegar: far more effective than coca cola. Drop it in there, take it out, give it a wire brush, if you're not happy with the result, put it back in, leave it a day, do the same again. I've had some really good results using vinegar and, to coin a phrase, it's as cheap as chips.
