Odd jet sizing for an 1800 - no wonder it wasn't happy

Been having trouble getting my Trailblaze to run right, particularly on steady part throttle - it tends to surge, especially in first and second, but the idle is spot on and and using the accelerator pump gives it a good boost of power.

I rebuilt a spare Zenith 36IV (25mm choke) with the jets from the original carb that came with the van, but didn't check the sizing - anyway, long story short, I checked them today and the main is a 65 (should be 85), with a 110 compensator jet (should be 115)? Idle is correct at 45.

I assume this small compensator jet in particular could be the source of my issues. Where is a good place to source new jets for the 1800?

Also, the carb is different from my other zeniths - economy device is a three piece unit with a screw in jet underneath, and the beak is smaller than on my other 36IVs with slightly different jet positions - is this normal for the 1800?

Hi PhilB,According to haynes,your sizes are correct-standard

25mm-choke
85mm-main
115mm-compensating
45mm-idle

pump jet-all-55
needle valve-all-1.75mm
needle valve washer-all-2mm

it does mention a code 636-

1800---choke--27mm

Thanks Alex.

I should have been a bit clearer. The jets that I have are 65 and 110,rather than the standard in haynes. I wonder, could the van have been used at altitude and thus required smaller jets? Anyway, I need to source the correct ones from somewhere...

Emulsion block on the right is what I'm used to seeing on CFs.

Tech Data for Zenith now uploaded in Howto section.

Cheers Phil. Both my 2.0 HC and the Zenith I picked up off ebay had the emulsion tube on the left. hmmm. Well, at least I know what I'm aiming for now. The original carb off the 1.8 had a duff idle needle and a jammed accelerator pump, so I've sourced a NOS unit which is apparently for a 1.8. Don't recognise the part number though - 3876. Linkages look right and it's the later variant so worth a punt.

Ah, a 2-litre ...

1600cc & 2000cc Zenith tech data added - 1969-72, 1972-on

Had a peep at early carburettor pics as well: left hand one is early, right hand one is late.

The two normally don't mix, something to do with different top cover venting (change to plastic elbow identifies).
