Weird temp problems.
I just cleaned the rad out with soda crystals and hot water as it was blocked up with crud and the engine was running hot.
For some reason the heater matrix valve will not close though the controls seem ok. (is there some kind of auto over ride built in??)
Now I cleaned the rad and ran the van for a few miles with no thermostat, struggles to climb above the blue mark. (as expected)
Installed thermostat but still running cold and heater still on (even with control set to cold)
Note, is there a special clip to hold the thermostat in place? I seem to be missing it if there is, instead I filed down the outside edge of the thermostat so it fits snugly right down into the housing onto the ledge at the bottom where there is a recess that I fitted a 48mm circlip to hold the stat in place with.
New water pump fitted last year, belt is good, no airlocks, Viscous fan seems to be working ok (whirrs on startup then goes quiet once the coupling has warmed up)
Can anyone help

I took the van for a good drive today I'm starting to thing the engine temp is fine - its running sweet but the temp gauge is reading low about 1/3 up the gauge at most - The engine feels hot and seems to warm up ok, there is also plenty of hot air from the heater which I can't switch off,:% it even got to the point where the fan started whirring in slow traffic, I dont get that, why is the temp saying low? my feet were roasting on the way home.

its a classic case of gauge temp playing up.
check for full deflection when earthing the temp wire to engine.
could be faulty temp sender unit or faulty gauge.
if your not bothered about keeping the Beddy gauge then why not fit an universal unit off ebay..............
