BEDFORD CF 280 - ROTTEN STEP

Hi All

It's been a while since I have posted on here - so here goes

Can anyone help me please, the step on my beddy has almost rotted through does anyone have any ideas/thoughts on how I can repair this please?

Its the camper step - ive removed the rubber cover and the wood underneath is rotten, I can see the road from around the edge!

Any ideas how to replace the step as we can't see anything we can attach more wood too!

Probably will be best to have a good look from underneath to see how the step is constructed before removing the rotten stuff until you get to sound timber.

If you can post photos then it might help - dissolving steps aren't unusual & someone else who has a similar van may have figured out the best way to tackle the job.

Pallet planking can be a good material for repairs because it's usually Portuguese pine that's naturally rot resistant & often can be had for free.

25x2mm flat steel from B&Q bent into shape should do for any supports needed.

If you're not used to working with wood then a local joiner might be favourite for patching up what's there or even making a new step & any supports that it might need.
