No spark at plug after fitting Accuspark
Just fitted my Accuspark kit to my 1976 1.8 slant (AC Delco D300 dizzy). Just for the benefit of those who haven't seen this kit, here is a piccy of it installed. Blue on the cam is just some sparky tape to aid a snug fit (as per instructions).
I get a nice blue spark from the king lead when the engine is turned over, but nothing at the plugs, aside from a very occasional weak spark. The van was running well an hour prior to me fitting the kit. I tried a new rotor, but no luck.
Firing order is correct at dizzy, and plug 1 has the rotor by it when cylinder 1 is at TDC. Even if the timing is now way out, should I still see a spark at the plugs? I assume so, in which case could it be a faulty dizzy cap - it was working prior to fitting the kit?

See whether the central carbon button has disappeared from inside the cap.

looks OK to me, although the four contacts look a bit dodgy - I'm no expert though, most of my bikes have been electronic ignition. Picture tells a thousand words...

Cap looks to be in good condition.
Dust between the contacts may be enough for sparks to disappear especially with more KV than before.

have a good close look at the rotor arm as they can track to earth.
If in doubt change for a known good one or new..........

Have you connected the red wire from the aquspark to a 12 volt ingnition switched positive feed or are you using the coil feed?.

Dave - I was using a 12V feed from my aux fuse box.
Rang Accuspark today. Apparently I am the 3rd person to call with this very issue (very odd as they haven't had it on any other dizzy). They have sourced the problem to incorrect spacing of the magnets in the rotor ring, and have withdrawn the Delco D300 kit from sale. They are going to release an updated product at some point, but in the mean time I can get a full refund.
Anyway... points and condenser are back in and the van fired up no probs with the original rotor and cap. I could have done with out wasting two evenings trying to solve a problem that wasn't solvable!

The reason I asked is I am running an Aldon electronic system it was a lot more pricey than the aquspark but I purchased an aquspark for my spare dizzy and installed it but have never tried it, I better swap dizzys to make sure mines ok.

Dave - probably a good idea - you wouldn't want to find out at the side of the road it was a dud! The woman on the phone did say they had sold many kits, and only a handful had experienced problems, but sods law mine had to be one of them. I'd do it sooner rather than later.

I tried mine yesterday by using a spare coil and conecting it up off the van on turning the dizzy I had a very good spark at the plugs, I am going to check again today to make sure the rotor is at the correct point as the spark occurs.

I think elecronic is the best as once setup all you have to make sure is you lubricate the bob wieghts now and again, I am running ans ALDON electronic system on mine and bought the Aquspark as a backup to replace the points and condensor in my spare dizzy.

Decided to put it on yesterday to see if mine worked and it works fine so I'll leave it on now and keep the Aldon one as my spare.

Blue sleve was fitted (it's just sparky tape) as it says in the instructions if the rotor is loose then pad it out with tape - the rotor had a good 10 degrees of movement if not packed out with the tape - which is not good I admit, but my dizzy isn't worn on the cam - maybe they made a dodgy batch of rotors that were too loose? We shall see when the new one turns up...
glad yours worked OK. I seem to get all the luck

I think that might be the case as mine was that tight a fit I wondered if it was going to go on but it did and it works,so good luck when your replacement arrives.
