servo unit
getting the old bird ready(VAN) for next lot of meets having trouble with battery old and knackered (bit like me) getting a new one, but I have suspicions regarding my server unit, could hear air leaking when depressing brakes so got a new rubber for where the unit fits the master cylinder but then battery gave up the ghost on trying to restart even when charged so unable to build up any pressure in the unit, once i get the battery fitted and engine started i will reverse out my drive and test brakes(off road) to see if the servo works? if not where do i get a replacment and will it be difficult get out and back in again. was thinking if i move the master cylinder away without removing brake pipes could i get away with bleeding the brakes?

Servo can be replaced as you describe: master cylinder can be eased away for enough clearance without loosening brake pipe unions.
Problem may be finding a servo in good condition. However, the master cylinder push rod seal (the one that you've replaced) usually is the culprit when air leakage can be heard.
If the new seal has been installed using castor oil grease (e.g. Girling Red Rubber grease) as lubricant particularly on the master cylinder push rod then cross your fingers ...

well as mickyboy said "if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any" engine fired up and running fine but no brakes, pump the brakes till feeling a bit of pressure, stop, press again nothing. So survo is No1 suspect. Any one got one knocking about?

No brakes as in pedal going to the floor is the hydraulics: even if the servo isn't working there's still a direct mechanical link through the servo & the brakes will work but requiring more pedal effort.
Bleed & adjust the brakes before condemning the servo. What you're going for is the pedal feeling hard with minimal play without the engine running.

One way to test a servo is with the engine turned OFF pump the brake pedal to use up any remaining vacumm, then push the brake pedal down and keep it down as you start the engine, if the servo is working as it regains vacumm the brake pedal will depress further.
