Thirsty

Would a new carb help prevent my van being so thirsty?
I assume it will as a 30 year old carb would be worn and would pour more juice in than a new one.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Give it a good clean first, making sure you dont adjust settings (like i did). Leaks from the gasket between the two halves or where the whole thing is bolted down can have an affect. Needles can wear, floats might need readjusting but if the thing is working a bit of TLC helps.
I flatted the mating surfaces where the gaskets are as the original casting didnt look too well finished. Sometimes they get distorted by overtightened threads, causing leaks, so this is worthwhile.

Make sure that all other engine adjustments (valve clearances, ignition system including timing) are correct & cooling system is working as it should (92C thermostat for the slant engine) before tinkering with the carburettor otherwise you could end up peeing in the wind using more petrol.
