what is a slant engine?

Hi
I have not a clue abouy anything that goes on under the bonnet. I have a Bedford CF250 2279 manual petrol 1982 y reg and reading in various post people refering to a slant engine. can anyone tell me if mine is one or not and apart from it slanting are there any other fundamental differences particulary for parts and maintenance.
Thanks
Robert

Slant engine is what you have; slant is shorthand for the Vauxhall overhead camshaft engine used in the FD & FE Victor, HC (Viva) Magnum & Firenza as well as the CF up to 1984.

As far as maintenance is concerned, treat it like any spark ignition 4-stroke engine. Main peculiarity is taper-screw adjustable tappets (compared to shim type tappets or rocker arm types of OHC engines).

If the distributor cap is black then it's Delco D300 contact breaker ignition system; brown cap is Bosch electronic which is far more reliable.
