I'm pretty certain that it's not the year of manufacture, it's the date of registration that qualifies the vehicle. Cheers, John.

Historic tax is given to a vehicle manufactured date not registration,

The full Vin no will be needed.

thats what i thought but the lady said if it was manufactured before 1973 it would qualify for free road tax because it was made as a van complete and then taken to the coach builders to be converted

Tax free is 1972, frome date of registration. we have look in to this a lot for my son-in-law. has he was looking for an old Landrover all tax free are also free from paying the London emissions ie the higher rate zon area.

Any car built (as opposed to registered) prior to Jan 1 1973 qualifies to be a Historic car in the eyes of DVLA, and as such qualifies for zero rated road tax. Originally the cutoff was meant to be a rolling 25 years, but the Labour government at that time, quashed this, setting the cutoff for Historic status as 01/01/73.
